Sarah Berkeley founded Symbiosis Gear after her frustrating experiences with finding an ultralight backpack that fit for her thru-hikes. Why was finding a good fit so challenging for such a crucial piece of gear? Most gear companies are owned by men and focus on creating gear for men. Designing gear for women is often an afterthought. Many gear companies do not even have women try on their gear during the development process! In contrast, Symbiosis Gear starts with the shape and demands of women’s bodies in their design process.
